What is JW!Convo?
ALPHA ver0.1 rel: 16 January 2006

JW!Convo is a toolbar enabling Microsoft Outlook users to organize and view their mail in a more intuitive conversation format. Patterned initially after the Gmail conversation model, JW!Convo enables users to view conversations they've had with specific people over time. The conversation thread is date sorted first (like Gmail) and then sub-categorized by conversation title.

Core features within JW!Convo include:

    Mass Import
  • Mass Import enables you to import your entire Inbox and Sent mailbox into JW!Convo. Each email in your Inbox and Sent mailbox is first encrypted using 256-bit encryption, compressed to about 1/10th of its original size and then sent to the JW!Convo servers for indexing and storage. Each email sent to the database is only added once. So you'll never see duplicates in your conversation views.
    View List
  • View List is a summary view of the people you've interacted with. It lists them alphabetically by email address and displays the last date you've had contact with them.
    View Convo
  • View Convo enables you to view conversations you've had with someone. You can go to View Convo two ways. First, simply highlight an email from someone in your Inbox and click the View Convo button on the Outlook toolbar. It will take you immediately to the conversation. Alternatively, you can View Convo via the View List button on the Outlook toolbar. Click on a person you'd like to view a conversation for and you'll immediately be taken to the conversation.
    Automatic Send/Receive updates
  • Each time you send or receive an email, JW!Convo automatically updates your views.
Why did you create JW!Convo?

As I was trying to link up with contacts via LinkedIn and Plaxo, I quickly became frustrated in not having a more granular level of detail in my communications with contacts. Sifting through Outlook quickly became an arduous process with high possibilities for errors in finding the most recent date and level of correspondence I had with people. JW!Convo addresses this.

Who can use JW!Convo?

Anyone who has MS Outlook, a Windows2000 or WindowsXP PC and the desire to use JW!Convo is welcome.
NOTE: Users of Outlook 2002 may experience install difficulties.

Why is JW!Convo free?

I have storage space, connectivity and a relatively cool little app. It seems a little heady to expect people to pay for it. If you wanna say "thanks" with a little PayPal love, I'm definitely OK with that.

How do I get JW!Convo?

Currently OFFLINE

How do I uninstall JW!Convo?

    To uninstall:
  • Quit Outlook
  • Go to Start> Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
  • Highlight JW!Convo
  • Click "Remove"
  • Restart Outlook (and you may have to delete the toolbar using Add or Remove Buttons -- by clicking on the downward pointing arrow on the right side of the tool bar).
Is JW!Convo Secure? How so?

Yes...well...as secure as anything can be via the Internet. Using 256-bit encryption and a private key, all messages are encrypted before being sent to the JW!Convo servers. To access the View List and View Convo features, a key is required from the user. This key is different from the key used for content encryption. This helps to ensure that your privacy is maintained as much as possible (and practical).

How is my info being stored via JW!Convo?

All mail data is stored on a set of servers behind a firewall that makes them inaccessible to the public without proper authentication. The content is 256-bit encrypted and stored on a repository server isolated from the server maintaining the encryption keys. Each user has a discrete public key and private key further protecting their security.

Why is there an IP address showing in my address bar during View Convo and View List?

The current version of JW!Convo runs on a dynamic DSL line. Every time you access JW!Convo, the Outlook add-in finds what IP the servers are using and accesses them directly.

Is there Web Only access to JW!Convo?

There will be in ALPHA ver0.2.

Current Known Issues
Updated: 28January2006 - 10:18AM (PST)

    Exchange support:
  • Currently does NOT support Exchange accounts.
    Mass Importing:
  • Only grabs Inbox and Sent mail box (not grabbing nested folders)
  • No cancel button
    General mail capturing:
  • No attachment support
    Mail body expanding:
  • If the Repository Server hasn't received a call for more than 5-10 minutes, the thread sleeps. It takes about a second to wake back up when you ask for it to retrieve a message body. The lag will only exist once...and only if there has been NO activity by ANYONE (not just you) for more than a couple minutes.
  • If you use the Subjects overviews on the left side to expand multiple messages, and expand a single message in the main viewer, and THEN hit the entry in Subjects on the left again to close the group of messages, the single closed message will open while the others close (e.g. it will see-saw).
    General mail viewing:
  • If you receive a mail as a group (e.g. not named directly on the mail) you will not be able to see a conversation.
